Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has has declined
to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra,
IPOB, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu on bail pending his trial. Kalu's trial was adjourned till February 9, 10, 11 and 12.
Justice John Tsoho citing reasons for rejecting the accused persons’ bail application on Friday held that they would continue to commit the alleged crime for which they were being prosecuted as Kanu’s admission that he was a dual citizen of Nigeria and Britain further heightened the possibility of him jumping bail.
The judge also ruled contrary to the contention by defence lawyers that the accused were likely to interfere with and intimidate prosecuting witnesses. In his ruling, the judge stated he would order an accelerated hearing of the case rather than grant the accused person bail. The accused persons would remain in Kuje prison throughout their trial as ordered by the judge.
